5-Letter Words Ending in ER

Words ending in ER are common in five-letter word games. If E or R turns yellow, this ending is worth testing.

The ER ending appears in many familiar words, so it is a useful pattern when a puzzle starts to point toward the final two letters. It can also help you avoid random guessing near the end of a game.

Starter list

water, baker, later, maker, diner, wiser, buyer, tiger, river, power, lower, upper, other, never, under, outer, super, safer, finer, sober.

Tip

If ER is confirmed, focus on the first three letters and avoid wasting guesses on impossible endings.

When you test an ER word, choose one that also checks new consonants. Water tests W, A, and T; baker tests B, A, and K; river tests R, I, and V. Even a wrong guess can be valuable if it removes several letters.
